The Salem Custom House Records, 1762-1900; bulk=1789-1850.

This collection gives evidence of the day-to-day activities undertaken by the Custom House employees. Included in the collection is staff correspondence, inspectors' returns, documentation of vessels, and records of goods that were imported and exported. Guilford Parker Bray's papers are included in this collection because he was Collector of Customs in Salem from 1889-1894. Included in this series: a notebook, a history of the Salem Custom House which he wrote, railroad tickets, as well as official papers dealing with his discharge from the Army and his commission at the Custom House.
